While he's been coy ever since the release of Incredible Hulk. Edward Norton has finally opened up on his thoughts on Incredible Hulk 2 and Avengers during press at SXSW. When asked about the future of Hulk, Edward seemed to give the impression there isn't much interest at Marvel for the time being. I'm sure after Avengers is released it could spark new interest for Hulk films.
"It's really up to you guys," he told me at one point, and by "you guys," he was referring to fans and the fan press in particular. "Is it important to you? Does that continuity matter?" The answer seems to me to be yes, it does matter to people, and there's something appealing about the notion of Edward Norton, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Hemsworth together. That's chemistry I'd like to see. Downey's hyper-confident Tony Stark would make an excellent foil for Norton's twitchy energy as the haunted Banner. (HitFix)
"I don't think so. I think it has got more to do with what Marvel is doing. I get the sense they have this grand vision of unspooling a lot of their characters and then starting to put them together. I think they can only do so many at a time. Obviously, they are doing Iron Man 2 and then getting some of the new ones out." (Cinematical)
MTV confirmed that Norton has zero plans to make cameos in Iron Man 2, Thor or Captain America. Which makes sense because we've been hearing that all these films take place before the events of Incredible Hulk. He did however have nice things to say about director Louis Leterrier. The assumption from his thoughts is that he'd want to see Leterrier direct Avengers expanding the characters and the Marvel world. Previously Louis had been making his campaign to direct the superhero epic and looks like best person for the job.
"I loved Louis Leterrier," Norton told MTV News during the South by Southwest Film Festival. "I thought he was just the greatest guy. I wish they'd given him more free reign than they did."
Norton went on to compare the storytelling potential in "Avengers" to that of another little film that generated some buzz around the comics world — before and after it hit the big screen.
"The thing that was so cool about seeing 'The Dark Night' was seeing that those guys really let Chris Nolan go there," he said. "They let him go long and dark and deep and we had been trying that and I think they weren't as comfortable with it." (MTV)
I believe that if Marvel had their way they would pump out films and sequels for all their characters. The simple fact is that they're focused on the three films they've set release dates for. Thor, Captain America and then focusing on getting everyone back for Avengers. They still have Ant-Man, Iron Man 3, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Black Widow, Nick Fury and Hawkeye in development stages. I'm sure the development list will increase if Iron Man 2 and the other two films do well next summer.
