Fincher In Talks To Direct 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

It looks like Disney's reboot of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea isn't dead after all. HeatVision reports that director David Fincher has approached Disney with his own version of classic. Previously director McG had pitched a $150 million dollar film with Will Smith rumored to play Nemo. It's expected that if Fincher signs on it would go into production sometime after he's finished filming The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo for Sony. Considering the project is still in development stages.

Now that McG's version has been scrapped screenwriter Scott Z. Burns has been brought into write a new treatment. Burns is best known for writing The Informant!, Bourne Ultimatum and most recently Steven Soderberg's Contagion. I believe with the history Burns and Matt Damon have I expect he could end up starring in the film.

If I had to pick someone to play the new Captain Nemo it would have to be Jared Harris who played Captain Mike in Benjamin Button. Since Nemo is both charming and dangerous I could see Harris bringing lots to the character.

*What do you think of David Fincher tackling the Disney classic?
