Robert Redford In Talks For Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, Is He A Villain Or The New Director Of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Deadline reports that iconic actor Robert Redford (Spy Game) is in talks for a role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They say the role is that of senior leadership of S.H.I.E.L.D. but isn't named. It's also mentioned it could lead to future roles in other Marvel films, Avengers 2?

It's possible that the role could be that of either Aleksander Lukin or Baron Zemo both major Marvel villains. The two have been previously linked to Winter Soldier and considering Robert's high profile it's likely he'll be more than just a desk jockey. We haven't learned who could be pulling the strings of the Winter Soldier program and Redford's mysterious role could be it. Honestly, the film has a slew of good guys including Cap, Falcon, Fury, Widow, Jasper and possibly Sharon Carter. It wouldn't be shocking to see Robert take more of villainous role this time around. There is also speculation that the Masters of Evil could come into play for Avengers 2.

THR mentions that the S.H.I.E.L.D. role could have more in common with Ralph Fiennes' part in Skyfall. As the new guard replacing M as the head of MI6. Could this mean that Robert Redford is becoming the new Nick Fury? Meaning that the name might be just given to whoever is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Leaving a bit of room to including the old WWII era Sgt. Fury lineage that was left out of The First Avenger (hinted to with the Howling Commandos). It's possible Whedon and Marvel have may found a way to give fans both versions of Nick Fury in same MCU (infinity formula?). I think having the Fury role being opening to multiple actors is an interesting casting concept. This doesn't mean Sam Jackson would be kicked out of the role entirely, maybe just for a couple of films to give him a break. Jackson did sign a nine picture deal which is really crazy if Marvel expects him to appear in every MCU installment.
